Pianos

Grand Piano

Over three hundred years ago, a smart person named Bartolomeo made the first piano. It's like a giant wooden box with strings inside. When you press a key, a little hammer inside hits a string to make sound. It became a popular instrument and is still loved for making beautiful music in almost every genre!

Rhodes Piano

A while back, a clever person named Harold Rhodes created the electric Rhodes piano. Instead of strings, it has metal tines that vibrate when hit by hammers. These sounds get amplified into a cool, smooth sound which is popular in all sorts of music, from jazz to pop.

Clavinet

The clavinet is a funky keyboard instrument that came around in the 1960s. It's like a mix of a piano and an electric guitar. When you press a key, it makes a tiny hammer hit a string inside, creating groovy sounds. People love it for its rhythm and vibe, especially in funk and rock music.

Synthesizer

These keyboards, also called "synths," make all sorts of cool sounds using electronics. Instead of strings, pipes, or air, they use computers and circuits to create music. The synthesizer can mimic almost any sound you can think of, from spacey bleeps to funky drum beats. It's like having a whole orchestra inside a keyboard!

More!

Instruments of all different shapes and sizes use the same white and black keys to control the notes. You can hear the pipe organ in "Gospel," the keytar in "Funk," and other piano-like instruments in "Rock N' Roll" and "K-Pop!"
