Strings

Violin

The violin has four strings stretched over a wooden body. When you use a bow to stroke the strings or pluck them with your fingers, the strings vibrate and make sound. The violin's wooden body helps amplify and shape the music. After it was invented, the violin became a superstar in classical music. When it's used in country or folk music, it's often called a "fiddle."

Cello

In the 16th century, the cello was created to add more richness and low tones to music. The cello has a wooden body, a neck, and four strings. When you use a bow or pluck the strings, they vibrate and create beautiful sounds. A cello is much larger than a violin, and another instrument, a viola, is in between the two, so that string sections can reach from very low to very high notes!

Harp

This beautiful instrument has tight strings attached to a big frame. At first, harps were small, but over time, they grew bigger and more majestic. When you pluck the strings with your fingers, they make lovely sounds. The harp's unique sound has been enchanting people for centuries.
